Internet Marketing Myth #7: My Patients, Prospective Patients, Partners, Referral Sources, and Everyone Else Cares Just as Much About My Promotion as My Mom Does
They don’t. But then, how could they?
Readers happen upon your promotion largely by accident most of the time. They will view it quickly and decide whether it’s relevant to them. This process takes, on average, less than 10 seconds. If they decide it isn’t for them, they will be gone in an instant. They won’t care how much time you put into dreaming it up or getting others to create. They won’t care if you believe it’s the best thing that’s ever been created for your business. Customers are heartless that way but that’s the mentality you have to deal with.
The obvious solution is to design promotions that stand the greatest probability of keeping them from going elsewhere. No approach is a guarantee of success but the more you understand your market, the smartest the design of your website, the more that research points toward certain approaches rather than others, the greatest the chance you will have to persuade the potential customer that you—and only you—are the best choice.
Enough said about that.
